Media Design Components

EDUA 7300 - Adv. Application Media & Tech

To capture the attention of audiences, media products must have a combination of design components that work together seamlessly. These components include graphics, typography, color schemes, and layout. In this blog post, we will explore each of these components and their importance in creating a high-quality media product.

  • Graphics are an essential element of any media product. They include photos, illustrations, and other visual elements that help to convey the message. Graphics should be high-quality and relevant to the content. A media product with poor quality graphics can make the content appear unprofessional and unappealing to viewers. It's important to select graphics that are visually appealing and reinforce the overall message of the content.

  • Typography is another key component of media design. It involves the selection of fonts, font sizes, and font styles. Typography plays a significant role in the readability and visual appeal of a media product. The right font choice can make the content look more professional and engaging. On the other hand, a poor font choice can make the content difficult to read and unappealing.

  • Color schemes also play a vital role in media design. Colors can evoke emotions and set the tone for the content. It's important to choose colors that complement each other and are appropriate for the message being conveyed. A media product with a poorly chosen color scheme can be distracting and detract from the content.

  • Layout is the final component of media design. It involves the arrangement of visual elements and content on a page. A well-designed layout should be visually appealing and lead the viewer's eye through the content. It's important to consider the hierarchy of information and the overall flow of the content when designing the layout. A poorly designed layout can result in a cluttered and confusing media product.

In conclusion, creating a quality media product requires careful consideration of each design component. Graphics, typography, color schemes, and layout all work together to create a visually appealing product. By selecting high-quality graphics, appropriate typography, complementary color schemes, and a well-designed layout, content creators can produce media products that capture and hold the attention of their audiences.

As part of my "Adv. Application Media & Tech" graduate class, I had the opportunity to design my personal brand logo. I was surprised by the high standards set for the various design components. Among these components, I found that learning about colors provided me with the most valuable information to create a better media product. Before creating my personal brand logo, I tried several designs to ensure that I would produce a high-quality product. However, the most challenging part was deciding on the message I wanted to convey to my audience while taking into consideration the graphics, typography, colors, and layout. Below, you can see the final version of my personal brand logo.
